Cross Country to Compete in Rhodes College Invitational Saturday
Sep 17, 2021 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis cross country teams are set to run in the Rhodes College Invitational Saturday, which marks their third-straight weekend competing.

The men's team will begin the 8k at 8 a.m., and the women's team will follow in the 5k at 8:45.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Tigers have opened the season with races three weekends in a row. Following the meet at Rhodes, the teams will have a week off before heading to Louisville for the Greater Louisville Classic.

Saturday marks the halfway point in the season for the Tigers, with only two more races before the American Athletic Conference Championships in October. This weekend is also the first time both the men's and women's team will be competing at full strength, with all top runners participating.

"Both the men's and women's teams are excited for the meet, as they view it as a home meet," said cross country coach Ken Frenette. "On the men's side, this will be the first time this season we're racing our top-five runners together. The women are also going into this meet with much anticipation as we sat out our top three at UNA."

This is the second meet in the Memphis area for cross country this year, with the first being the City Auto Twilight Classic season opener.

"For both squads, we're emphasizing to race with effort without being overly concerned by the clock," Frenette said. "It's all about competing. Both teams are in a great position to do something special this Saturday out on the trails. By all indications, due to the weather it's going to be a muddy day out there on Saturday."

The meet will be held Shelby Farms Park, with the main entrance for the race being located off Farm Road.

Competing Teams:
Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belhaven, Blue Mountain College, Centre College, Christian Brothers, East Texas Baptist, Hendrix, Lane College, Memphis, Millsaps, Mississippi Valley, Rhodes, Union University, University of the Ozarks, UT Martin, University of Texas at Dallas.
