Boychuk earns All-America honors
May 13, 2021 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers junior forward Tanya Boychuk has been named a United Soccer Coaches Second-Team All-American, becoming the ninth All-American in program history.
Â
Boychuk adds All-America recognition to her postseason resume that also includes All-South Region and All-American Athletic Conference First Team honors.
Â
"Being named an All-American is an amazing honor," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "It's the ultimate award. There are fewer than 50 players who earn this each year, and I couldn't be happier for Tanya. We not only asked her to play several different positions this season, but she was also asked to captain our team and responded to every challenge.
Â
"The next step for her is to continue to grow in her role as a player, teammate and leader."
Â
Boychuk started all 12 games for the Tigers this season and tied for the team lead with three goals, and she also had an assist. The Edmonton, Alberta, native scored twice in Memphis' 3-2, overtime win at No. 6 Vanderbilt on March 28. Her 96th-minute golden goal gave Memphis its second-ever win over a top-10 opponent.
Â
The Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year and fourth in the last five overall and went 8-4 in the 2020 season, which was played this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the win at Vanderbilt, it also included a perfect 5-0 mark at home.
