Herrmann, England top-10 finishes lead Memphis women’s golf in AAC Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – Graduate student Abby Herrmann and sophomore Victoria England notched top-10 finishes to lead Memphis women's golf to seventh in the AAC Championship Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 6.
Herrmann, who was tied for the lead after a first round 1-under 71 on Sunday, had a second round 75 before carding a final round 76 to finish eighth at 6-over in her final collegiate tournament. In the previous tournament, the Pensacola, Fla., native, made her first hole-in-one in competition in the Brickyard Collegiate final round April 6 to lead the Tigers to a season-best fop-five finish.
England climbed 11 spots by firing a 1-under final round 71 to tie for ninth at 7-over 223. Starting on No. 10, the sophomore from Memphis had three birdies on a pair of par-5s at Nos. 15 and 2 along with the par-4 fifth. She had a 73 in the first round followed by a 79 on Monday. England finished the season strong as she also tied for 13th in the Brickyard Collegiate in the Tigers' previous tournament.
Sophomore Brooke Veres was in 30th with a 79-77-78--234 while junior Ana Dawson tied for 33rd at 80-76-79—235. Julia Matzat bogeyed four of her last five holes to shoot a 75 to tie for 37th at 83-79-75—237.
Tulsa won the AAC Championship with a 24-over 293-301-294—888, three shots ahead of No. 20 Houston (296-303-292—891). East Carolina was third with a 298-296-300—894) followed by No. 31 UCF (293-302-302—897), SMU (302-303-293—898), South Florida (301-303-301—905), Memphis (303-307-300--910), Tulane (306-304-302—912), Cincinnati (326-312-310—948) and Wichita State (323-324-319—966).
The Tigers tied for the fourth lowest final round to conclude their season.
East Carolina's Dorthea Forbrigd won medalist honors at 1-under with rounds of 71-72-72--215, a shot ahead of Tulsa's Lorena Tseng (72-74-70—216). Houston's Karen Fredgaard, who is ranked sixth nationally, climbed 15 spots with a final round 5-under 67 to finish third at 2-over 75-76-67—218.
