Tigers grab key weekend wins at Cincinnati, Xavier

CINCINNATI – The Memphis Tigers women's tennis team completed a sweep in Cincinnati this weekend, topping Cincinnati, 7-0, on Friday before knocking off Xavier on Saturday, 5-2.

The Tigers have won three of their last four matches and five of their last seven overall.

"It was a great weekend for the Tigers," head coach Hayden Perez said. "Both Cincinnati and Xavier were very tough opponents and challenged us.

"Against Cincinnati, the top four singles positions were all three-setters, and we proved mentally tough at the end of those third sets, which is something we have emphasized to the group throughout the year. Our tough schedule early in the season paid dividends in those situations.

"Xavier proved to be very tough, too, but our resolve was again pretty solid late in sets. This was one of our more complete efforts this year. Everyone 'showed up' on the same day, and we certainly needed it. It was a great effort by all. A big thanks to Ryan Haymond for his efforts this weekend!"

Up next for Memphis (6-11) are American Athletic Conference matches at Tulane on April 9 and at home against Wichita State on April 11.
