Tigers earn national team of the month for February play; Story named AAC Player of the Week

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a 4-1 month that included a win over No. 17 Ole Miss, the 25th-ranked Memphis Tigers men's tennis team was named the Division I UTR ITA Team of the Month for February.

The award, given by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), considers a team's rise in the Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR). Memphis increased its UTR by 0.92 after wins over Ole Miss, Clemson, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas. The Tigers' only loss in February was a narrow defeat at Mississippi State.

During the month, Memphis' James Story was particularly impressive. He defeated No. 62 Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and he also had a win over No. 72 Alex Reco of Arkansas.

Story was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in the Arkansas match, which included a doubles win along with clinching the match for the Tigers with his win over Reco.

Now with a 5-1 overall record this spring, the Tigers turn their attention to American Athletic Conference play, starting Friday at Wichita State and Sunday at Tulsa.
