Mar 11, 2021 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Playing at home for the first time in more than a month, Memphis men's soccer will play host to USF, which is riding a three-match winning streak, on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT at the Park Avenue Campus.
Since the Tigers' (1-3) last home game in the season-opening 2-0 loss to No. 8 SMU on Feb. 6, Memphis won at Temple 2-1 in double overtime before losing at No. 8 SMU and at UCF 2-1.
USF (3-2) has won three-straight games after opening the season with a pair of losses. The three-game winning streak includes a pair of wins over top 25 teams, winning by identical 2-1 scores at No. 14 UCF on Feb. 20 and No. 22 Tulsa last Saturday. Sandwiched between the two ranked wins was another 2-1 victory at Temple Feb. 27.
USF's Shion Soga is the reigning AAC Rookie of the Week after scoring his first career goal in the win against Tulsa. Brian Schaefer notched the game-winner with his first career goal. The Bulls opened the season with losses to Temple 3-2 on Feb. 6 and vs. No. 8 SMU 7-0 a week later.
Memphis sophomore defender Maliek Howell was named to the AAC Men's Soccer honor roll this week. Howell, from Kingston, Jamaica, scored unassisted in the 86th minute but the Tigers' comeback fell short in the 2-1 loss at UCF last Saturday at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.
Howell has a team-leading three points with a goal and assist, while Luke Kelly and Gurman Sangha each have two points on the season.
Live stats for the match will be available at GoTigersGo.com. Please note the match time being moved up an hour to 5:30 p.m. from its originally scheduled time of 6:30 p.m.
