DALLAS, Texas – The first two rounds of the Memphis Tigers' season were scheduled for Monday, though play at the Trinity Forest Invitational was suspended due to darkness with three holes remaining for the Tigers in the second round.
The Tigers sit 11th in the 14-team field at 63-over, while Brooke Veres is T-23 at 8-over after 33 holes. Memphis opened the morning with a 42-over as a team and was 21-over through 15 holes in the second round. Veres carded a 4-over 76 in the opening round and sat 4-over in the second round when play was suspended.
After a first round 9-over, junior Ana Dawson birdied three of her first five holes in the second round and sits just 1-over on her second 18 holes with the second round nearly complete. Sophomore Victoria England shot a 1-under on the back nine in the first round as part of a 5-over opening round. England started the second round with a birdie and an eagle over the first three holes and sits T-32 at 10-over.
Freshman Rebecca Brink struggled in her opening round at 13-over but is amidst one of the strongest second rounds of anyone in the tournament at just 3-over. Brink has 11 pars over 15 holes in the second round and is 16-over (T-61) for the tournament.
The most tenured of the Memphis participants, Abby Herrmann wasn't able to get going on Monday, as the graduate student went 11-over in the first round and started her second round bogey-triple bogey. She sits 70th after 33 holes.
Baylor is the only program under par and leads by 13 shots at 4-under ahead of Oklahoma State. Just three players in the 74-player field were under par when play was suspended. Oklahoma State's Maja Stark leads the tournament at 5-under, while Baylor's Rosie Belsham (2-under) and Hannak King (1-under) sit in second and third place respectively. The Bears have three players among the top five overall.
The Tigers tee-off for the resumption of the second round on No. 2 at 8:30 a.m. with three holes remaining in the second round. The tournament will then roll continuously into the final round. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
