Tigers to Host LSU in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After winning their second American Athletic Conference Championship, Memphis will move on to the "Big Dance" when they host the tigers of LSU on Sunday at 1 p.m. at South Campus.
In a match that saw the Tigers (13-4-2) record their 11th shutout of the season, Memphis would find themselves tied with the 1-seeded South Florida after 110 minutes of play in the AAC Championship final. In penalty kicks, Elizabeth Moberg would make two diving saves in penalty kicks while Tanya Boychuk, Saorla Miller and Jocelyn Alonzo all netted their PK's to give the Tigers the win and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Miller, Kimberley Smit, Caroline Duncan and Haylee Spray were all named to the AAC All-Tournament Team while Miller was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament.
This is the fourth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 10th overall for Memphis.
The Tigers have had a great balance of scoring this season; Boyhuck leads the way with six goals and three assists while Alonzo, Miller and Aubrey Mister have netted five goals each. Nine other players have all scored goals for Memphis this season.
Moberg, who was also named to the AAC All-Tournament Team and as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the AAC Championship, has been steady for the Tigers in goal this season. Along with recording nine shutouts, she has allowed just 10 goals in 19 appearances while holding a 0.53 GAA.
LSU (11-7-1) finished 9th in a tough SEC conference and made it to the Quarterfinals of the SEC tournament before falling to the top-seeded Razorbacks of Arkansas.
For the season, Tinaya Alexander leads the team with nine goals and six assists while Alesia Garcia recorded six goals and four assists. Mollee Swift has been the Tigers go-to in goal this season; she has recorded 76 saves in just over 1,600 minutes of work.
Sunday's matchup will be just the 8th meeting all-time between Memphis and LSU. The most recent dating back to 2012 when LSU took the game 2-1.
