MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers seniors Maxi Galizzi and Parker Lackland were honored by the American Athletic Conference for their efforts in Memphis' 4-1 win at SMU Friday night in the regular season finale.
The pair helped Memphis secure the third-seed in the AAC Men's Soccer Championship with the win, which begins Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla.
Galizzi, the league's Offensive Player of the Week, fired all four of his shot attempts on the night on-goal, and he bagged a brace in just under a four-minute span in the first half. Galizzi scored the match-winner at 18:58 to push Memphis in front of SMU 2-1 before adding an insurance goal at 22:23 to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage over the Mustangs.
Lackland turned in a signature performance in front of a hometown crowd against a talented SMU offense. Lackland matched a season-high with six saves in the victory, turning aside four shots in the first half and two in the second to neutralize an SMU goal that was scored just 1:55 into the contest.
The Tigers open AAC Tournament play Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against second-seeded UCF. With a win, the Tigers would advance to the championship match next Saturday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. against either top-seeded Tulsa or fourth-seeded SMU. Each match in the AAC Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN+.
