Oct 04, 2021 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Three Memphis Tigers earned weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference after the squad picked up road shutout wins at Temple and at UCF last week.
Senior Artur De Luca was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week, freshman Colin Welsh was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week and senior Maxi Galizzi earned a spot on the Honor Roll.
De Luca and Welsh helped lead 180 scoreless minutes for the defense, which gave Memphis its first sequence of back-to-back shutout wins since Oct. 2018. Welsh made a total of 10 saves during the two games, with seven coming at UCF including multiple in key situations down the stretch to preserve the clean sheet. In addition to helping anchor the back line, De Luca scored twice in the win over the Knights.
Galizzi scored a goal at Temple and assisted on all three of Memphis' scores at UCF to wrap up a five-point week for the team's leading scorer and assist man.
Memphis now returns home to play SMU Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. After that, the Tigers head to South Florida on Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. CT.
