LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Memphis cross country teams were paced by junior Zachary Wyatt and sophomore Chloe Figgins at the Live at Lou Cross Country Classic Saturday.
With the men's and women's teams both competing in the most difficult division of the meet, the Gold Races, Wyatt placed 28th, finishing the 8k with a time of 24:03, and Figgins came in 51st in the 5k at 17:38. These finishes were personal records for both athletes.
Also coming home with a PR is Solstice Saliba, who finished the 5k at the 18:18 mark.
In team results, the men finished 20th in a field of 36, while the women placed 32nd out of 44.
"The team placing for both programs was not exactly what we were looking for in the overall team results," Assistant Cross Country Coach Ken Frenette said. "It revealed to us the things we need to work on in regard to racing in a field with such depth, pressure and quality. We're excited to move forward with our sights set on the Blazer Classic in two weeks, then the conference championship at the end of the month."
After a weekend off, the Tigers will travel to Meadowbrook, Ala., to race in the Blazer Classic, hosted by UAB. The teams last competed in this meet in 2019, where the men placed third, led by Payton Gleason, and the women finished in 8th, paced by Brooke Mussche. Following, the Tigers will compete in the American Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the month.
