Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Earn Regional Rankings

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After strong performances at last weekend's UAB Blazer Classic, University of Memphis cross country teams have both achieved rankings in this week's U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region poll for the first time this season.
The men entered the rankings at the No. 13 spot and the women in the No.14 spot. True for both the men and women, each team is one of five American Athletic Conference programs ranked among the nine regional polls.
The men's team finished the postponed 2020 season regionally-ranked at No.15.
In the Oct. 16 Blazer Classic, junior Payton Gleason grabbed the top spot in the men's 8k (24:23.43), leading the team to a third-place team finish. Chloe Figgins was first to finish for the women, bettering her 6k personal best by over a minute with a sixth-place performance (21:43.10).
After a week off, the Tigers will compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship in Florida Oct. 29.
