Gleason Named AAC Male Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Junior cross country athlete Payton Gleason has been named the American Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
This past weekend at the UAB Blazer Classic, Gleason claimed the top spot in a field of more than 175 athletes (24:23.43) and recorded a 4:45.4 average mile split. This led the Tigers to a third-place team performance and a No.13 regional ranking.
A Churchville, N.Y., native, Gleason is a two-time All-Conference athlete in cross country and also received All-Conference recognition for the 10k in the 2021 outdoor track season.
He last received the AAC Male Athlete of the Week Award following a sixth-place finish in the 2019 season opener.
Gleason and the rest of the Tiger harriers will continue competition when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. for the conference championships Oct. 29.
