Boychuk, Spray Named to AAC Weekly Honors
Oct 11, 2021 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following another spectacular weekend that saw the No. 21 Tigers remain undefeated in American Athletic Conference play, Memphis players Tanya Boychuk and Haylee Spray have been named as the offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Boychuk, who picked up her fifth and sixth goals of the season this weekend against Tulsa and Cincinnati, also scored both game-winning goals for the Tigers. Her team-leading six goals currently ranks her fourth in the conference in total goals and second in the AAC with her three game-winning goals for the season.
This is Boychuk's first player of the week honor this season and the third for her career.
Spray, who has been a solid force for Memphis' midfield and back line, helped the team to their seventh shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over Tulsa while also holding Cincinnati's offense to just two shots on-goal and five total shots for the entire match. Spray is part of a defense that ranks as one of the strongest in the country that has held their opponents to just 25 shots on-goal and only 22 corner kicks through 12 matches.
This is Spray's first player of the week honor for this season and the second for her career.
No. 21 Memphis (10-1-1, 4-0-0 AAC) will be back in action on Sunday, October 17 against South Florida. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Track & Soccer Complex.
