MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In their second to last race before the American Athletic Conference Championship, University of Memphis men's and women's cross country teams will travel to compete in the annual Live at Lou Cross Country Classic Saturday.
Both teams were selected to run in the college Gold Races, the most competitive division of the meet. The men's 8k will begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the women following in the 5k at 10:15, all held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
The Tigers are coming back after a weekend off, which followed a successful start to the season. Most recently in the Rhodes Invite, the men took home the title, while the women finished second. Combined, the men and women had seven top-10 finishes and multiple PRs.
"Both teams are aiming to continue their momentum from Rhodes," cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "This will be the first time for a number of them to be competing in a meet with such depth and quality. It's a great opportunity to go up against some of the best programs in the country."
The entire event includes more than 100 teams with appearances from nationally-ranked Wisconsin and Michigan's women's team and those ranked in Memphis' South Region: Ole Miss, MTSU, Lipscomb, South Alabama and ETSU.
"I am looking for Zachary Wyatt, Tate Wyatt and Payton Gleason to take full advantage of this opportunity to race with the best," Frenette said. "Chloe Figgins, Solstice Saliba and Brooke Mussche will be leading our women. The deciding factor in our success on Saturday will not only be our top three runners on each team, but importantly, we also need out fourth through seventh runners to close the gap."
