Sophomore named Second Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Nearing the start of the 2021 campaign, Memphis baseball's Hunter Goodman added another preseason All-America accolade to his collection as D1Baseball announced its Preseason All-America teams this week.
Goodman was named Second Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball as a designated hitter. In December, the third-year sophomore was also named to Collegiate Baseball's Preseason All-America second team.
The All-American selection marks Goodman's third career preseason nod after also garnering the same honors preceding the 2020 season. Collegiate Baseball also named Goodman to their All-America team following the condensed 2020 schedule.
With his All-America accolade at the end of the 2020 season, the Arlington, Tenn., native became the first player in program history to be named a Freshman All-American and All-American in a career.
The junior capped his 2020 campaign ranked third nationally with eight home runs and 31 RBI and ranked sixth in the country with 52 total bases through 17 games.
On Mar. 3, he was named the National Player of the Week after posting a career weekend against Western Illinois. In the three-game series, Goodman produced 22 RBI behind four home runs – three of which were grand slams on each day – two doubles, seven runs scored and a stolen base.
He also tallied 11 RBI in the Western Illinois series finale, which set a Memphis and American Athletic Conference single-game record, and tied an NCAA single-game high throughout the 2020 season.
For his career, Goodman holds a .333 batting average with 21 home runs, 98 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
Goodman was the lone position player from the American Athletic Conference on any of D1Baseball's Preseason All-America teams. Tulane RHP Braden Olthoff (Third Team) was the only other representatives from The American on D1Baseball's Preseason All-America list.
