MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's soccer's Serena Dolan will continue her athletic career at the professional level after signing a pro international contract.
Dolan, a four-year starter with the Blue and Gray, signed with Club Atlético Osasuna of the Segunda División Pro in Pamplona, Spain.
After classmate Stasia Mallin signed with BIIK Kazygurt of the Kazakhstani Championship in the spring, Dolan became the fifth Memphis women's soccer alum to sign a pro deal in the last two years, joining 2019 signees Olivia Gauthier, Catherine Levasseur and Marie Levasseur in the professional ranks.
"It's great to see these student-athletes year-in and year-out come and put four great years of work into the Memphis program and move on to continue their careers," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "I couldn't be happier for Serena in continuing on this path to the pros. She had an incredible collegiate career and it's no surprise to us that she's moving on to the next level. I'm confident she will have success because she has the mentality it takes to play at the next level."
Dolan joins an Osasuna club that competes in the Segunda División Pro under the UEFA Confederation. The team was poised for a promotion to the Primera División in the spring but will remain in its current division after play was halted due to coronavirus.
Dolan noted Osasuna plays a technical style of soccer, while the roster is comprised mostly of national team players on the Spanish National Team.
The Kentville, Nova Scotia native's path to the pros gained traction toward the end of her junior year after being named First Team All-Conference and was added to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List ahead of the 2019 season.
After her senior year, she signed with an agency that holds connections with clubs in Spain.
"They have a lot of contacts in Spain, and that was one of the places I was really keen on playing because of the high level of soccer and the country is amazing," Dolan said.
In addition to the high level of soccer, Dolan was impressed with the team's annual standing and recognized it as a good fit.
"After looking into the team, it looked as if they were always among the top five in their league," she added. "I knew they had to be a good team based on that and am looking forward to the competitive environment."
Osasuna announced last week it will participate in the Iberdrola Challenge, which will begin on September 27. The Reds will start its 2020-21 campaign in the North Group of the silver category, which will be comprised of 34 teams divided into two groups. Dolan plans to join the club later this summer while training in her home province of Nova Scotia until then.
In addition to her All-Conference nod in 2018, Dolan was named Second Team All-Conference and earned All-Tournament Team honors at the end of her senior season. In the classroom, Dolan also garnered Scholar All-America honors in 2018.
The captain served as a staple in the Memphis midfield in 2019, posting two goals and four assists in her senior year. She started all 21 matches for the Tigers and amassed 1653 minutes.
