MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Alec Stopperich, a team captain the past four seasons at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., will finish his collegiate golf career at the University of Memphis.
The UofM announced Monday that Stopperich will join the Tigers' program as a graduate transfer.
"Alec is a very nice pickup for us," said Memphis coach Blake Smart. "He has had a career where he has shown great improvement over his four years at Samford and brings a wealth of tournament experience to our lineup.
"I am most excited about his continued commitment toward further improvement and I look for him to be immediately competitive and traveling."
Stopperich, who attended Peters Township High School in McMurray, Pa., earned a spot on the All So-Con team after the 2019-20 season.
In the summer of 2019, he qualified for the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Amateur by firing a 6-under 66 that included six birdies and an eagle.
As a junior, he played in four tournaments in the fall and led the team with a 73.09 stroke average. His best result was a fourth-place showing at the Autotrader Classic, where he shot 9-under 207 (67-69-71).
During his sophomore season, he played in 11 events and posted an average of 74.52 over 33 rounds. Among the highlights was a 15th-place finish at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, where he shot 1-under 209 (69-71-69).
As a freshman, he appeared in seven tournaments with his best result being a tie for third in the Samford Intercollegiate. He shot 70-70-80 at the Samford Intercollegiate.
A standout prep athlete at Peters Township, he also was a member of the school's baseball team.
