May 27, 2020 | General
MEMPHIS – In consultation with city, state, campus and national medical advisors, as well as the American Athletic Conference COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group, University of Memphis Athletic Director Laird Veatch announced a phased plan for student-athletes, coaches and staff to safely return to campus, training and competition.
Phase 0 will be launched on June 6 with limited athletic department staff, football staff and football student-athletes.
This phased approach is intended to permit adoption of best practices and keep the safety of the student-athletes at the forefront. The first phase of the plan includes strict protocols for a limited number of staff and student-athletes, while each subsequent stage will only be enacted upon the success of the previous stage.
"The safety of our staff, student-athletes and coaches is the driver of this plan," said Veatch. "We are allowing the medical experts to guide every aspect of the re-socialization and will continue to do so throughout the process."
The plan includes screening, testing, social distancing, prevention, cleaning, communication and more.
