MEMPHIS — The Memphis men's golf program has added Oskar Ambrosius and Sergio Cavestany to its 2021 signing class.
With Ambrosius from Denmark and Cavestany from Spain, Tigers coach Blake Smart has now signed five international players in the last two signing classes.
Oskar Ambrosius | Viborg, Denmark
Ambrosius comes to Memphis from UTEP with three semesters of eligibility remaining. He won two individual titles at UTEP, the Bearkat Invitational as a sophomore and the CSU Ram Masters Invitational as a junior. He earned Conference USA Co-Golfer on the Week on both occasions and was a postseason second-team All-Conference USA selection.
A native of Denmark, Ambrosius represented his country in the 2017 European Men's Team Championships. Also in 2017, he won the Jyske Bank PGA Championship on the Danish-based ECCO Tour. He shot a second-round 63 (-9) at the event to match a course record and held off several professionals on his way to victory.
"Oskar brings a lot of experience to our program and has shown the ability to win at the D-I level," said Memphis head coach Blake Smart. "In the short term, we expect him to add top of the lineup firepower and really make our qualifying in the spring extremely competitive."
Sergio Cavestany | Madrid, Spain
Cavestany won Spain's 2019 Junior Male National Championship by two strokes with rounds of 72 and 70. He finished with an eagle, three birdies and two pars over the final seven holes of the competition to close out the victory.
At the 2020 Madrid Amateur, Cavestany posted a 211 (-11) over three rounds to finish first in the under-18 division. His second-round 67 was the second-lowest round of the tournament across all age groups.
"Sergio is continuing our line of Spaniards that began four years ago with Borja Martin," Smart said. "Sergio is a solid competitor that brings a well-rounded game, and he should compete for playing time immediately as a freshman."
