Guerber, Nakao set to join program in spring
MEMPHIS – Memphis women's soccer kicks off its 2020 Fall signing class with the additions of two international standouts who signed their National Letters of Intent to join the program, head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Monday.
The full signing class begins with the additions of Jasmine Guerber, a forward from St-Leonard, Quebec City, and midfielder Momo Nakao of Chiba, Japan. The international duo is set to join the program in January ahead of the 2021 spring season.
"I'm very excited to announce our strong signing class, starting with two that will be joining us in January. It's always an advantage to get that semester under your belt from a transition standpoint," Monaghan said. "Both bring in their own unique skill set and have the potential to make an impact early in their collegiate careers."
Jasmine Guerber

High School: Lester B Pearson HS
Hometown: St-Leonard, QC
Club: CS Monteuil
Club Coach: David Cerasuolo
Hobbies: Watching movies, listening to music, reading, hanging out with family and friends.

Why Jasmine chose Memphis: I chose Memphis because of the amazing coaching staff and highly ranked soccer program, along with the academic programs that will allow for my success.
Coach Monaghan on Guerber:
Jasmine is a very attacking-minded player. She has a knack for scoring goals and has exceptional speed. She has very good vision in regard to getting behind an opposing team's backline. She's someone who has international experience with Canada, and has been a part of the CNHP under the guidance of Rudy Doliscat since 2015. Jasmine, with her experience, is a player that has the potential to truly make an impact for Memphis. She has the qualities we look for in a forward.
Momo Nakao
Position: M
High School: Chiba Prefectual Makuhuari Sohgoh HS
Hometown: Inzai City, Chiba, Japan
Club: JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies
Club Coach: Shinji Sarusawa
Hobbies: Watching movies
National Team Experience: Japan U-15, U-17 and U-19 National Team
Why Momo chose Memphis: When I wanted to be an American university student, I talked about my plan with my head coach. She and another one of my coaches graduated from the University of Memphis. They are such good people and I respect them. I was encouraged to go to America and become a student in America by talking with them. They were kind to tell me how good the University of Memphis is, and I was interested in the University because of their advice. As I started to collect more information, I found that the University of Memphis' women's soccer is strong, and soccer players were so excellent. The more I learned about the program, the more I wanted to go to the University of Memphis.
Coach Monaghan on Nakao:
We're very excited to add a player of Momo's caliber. She has trained and competed on Japanese National Teams at all the youth levels. She's a center-mid that has fantastic vision. Her technical and tactical abilities are exceptional. She's another player we feel that has the ability to come in and make us better.
