Former Tiger Joe Salisbury reaches Australian Open final

London, England native to compete in first career Grand Slam final
MELBOURNE, Australia – Former Memphis Tiger Joe Salisbury has advanced to his first career Grand Slam final in the Australian Open. Eleventh-seeded Salisbury and doubles partner Rajeev Ram advance to the finals after defeating the Kazakhstani duo of Makhail Kukushkin and Alexander Bublik.
Salisbury and Ram overtook the Kasakhstani pair in three sets with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. Down 3-1 in the deciding set, Salisbury and Ram dug deep to pull out their first Grand Slam finals appearance as a duo. In all ATP events, the pair is 2-3 in ATP Tour finals.
Turning pro in 2014, Salisbury's previous best finish at a Grand Slam event was a semifinal appearance at Wimbledon in 2018. At the 2019 French Open, the London, England native reached the quarterfinal round, also playing with Ram. Sunday's final will feature the tandem of Salisbury and Ram facing wild cards Max Purcell and Luke Saville.
In the third round of play, Salisbury and Ram defeated their highest-seeded opponent of the tournament in the 6-seed pair of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos with scores of 6-4, 7-6(13-11). The former Tiger holds a world ranking of 21.
