NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior athletic trainer Larry Reynolds was awarded the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Society Backbone Award Saturday at the TATS Annual Awards Banquet at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Â
The Backbone Award is given to that person whose commitment and enthusiasm exemplifies the unselfish loyalty to their respective programs, staff and athletes. The professional dedication and personal sacrifice of these individuals allows those with supervisory responsibility to better meet their obligations.
Â
"We are so proud of Larry for receiving the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Association (TATS) Backbone Award. The state and the rest of country are finally recognizing what we've known for years," said Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Head Football Athletic Trainer Darrell Turner. "Larry is the backbone of our program and has been a significant contributor to the success of our department and The University of Memphis Football program as a whole. The definition of this award epitomizes who Larry is as a person and as an athletic trainer on a daily basis. His clinical skills, compassion, and commitment as a healthcare professional demonstrate why he was nominated and received this prestigious award."
Â
Reynolds joined the University of Memphis athletic training staff in 2013 as an assistant athletic trainer for the football program and later promoted to senior athletic trainer in 2016. The Tigers have since won three-straight American Athletic Conference West Division titles as well as the AAC Championship in 2019. In 2014, Reynolds was part of the Memphis program that capped the season with a 55-48 double-overtime victory at the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl.
Â
A 2005 graduate of Indiana State University, Reynolds received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While a student at Indiana State, he was selected for two PFATS Minority Scholarships, working with the Minnesota Vikings (2003) and the New England Patriots (2005). He also held a summer internship with the then, AFL2 Bossier City Battle Wings in his hometown of Bossier City, La.
