Tigers open Samford Hidden Duals with eight victories

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In its second weekend of the fall season, Memphis women's tennis began the Samford Hidden Duals with a strong singles effort.
The Tigers posted seven wins in singles play in nine matches, while etching a doubles victory.
Facing Tulane in doubles, junior Laura Bente and freshman Aran Teixido Garcia claimed a 6-3 victory.
The Tigers then turned in five singles wins against South Alabama and a pair of victories against Samford.
"I'm pretty happy with the day today in regards to singles," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We showed some grit in some spots and competed really well. We have some improvements to make in doubles, but it is so early in the year. I know we will put the pieces together throughout the year."
Shifting its focus to singles, Teixido Garcia, Alisha Reayer, Lina Hohnhold, Monique Woog and Claire Sullivan turned in straight-set victories against their Jaguar opponents.
Hannah Davies took a three-set bout against Samford's India Ampaw, while Josephine Cao downed Samford's Amanda Kilduff.
Memphis will return to action for day two of the Samford Hidden Duals beginning at 10 a.m.
