Winners of three in a row, Memphis looks to continue its momentum as conference play begins. The Tigers won their previous outing, a home match against Saint Louis, by way of a 3-2 final. The teams traded goals for the first 60 minutes of the match, each time Memphis would take the lead, the Billikens would have a response, knotting the game after each of Memphis' first two goals. The game-winner came from Sam Ashton, who scored his second goal of the night in the 68th minute. Memphis' defense would hold off the visitors until the final whistle to pick up the win.
Ashton's two goals against Saint Louis increased his team-leading goal count to seven. He is the first Tiger to tally seven goals in a season since 2015, when Raul Gonzalez netted seven scores in 17 matches. Ashton's goal total is third in the conference and tied for ninth in the country.
Memphis has also shown an ability to play off of each other for goals. Of the 13 goals that are not PKs, only one has not been off of an assist. As a whole, Memphis has 12 assists on 16 total goals this season. Memphis' 2.29 goals per game is the 13th-highest mark in the country.
Between the pipes, goalkeeper Parker Lackland carries a 1.39 goals against average and has logged two shutouts this year. His five wins in net mark a career-best, after guiding the Tigers to four wins as a freshman.
All-time against Cincinnati, the Bearcats currently hold a 14-13-1 advantage over Memphis. Memphis has claimed victory in the last two matches, however, picking up a 1-0 shutout in last year's battle at home.
Scouting the Bearcats
Cincinnati plays host to the Tigers after capturing a 4-3 win on the road against Bowling Green last Saturday. After tying the game in the 90th minute of regulation, the Bearcats were able to take the win less than two minutes into overtime.
The Bearcats have struggled finishing plays on offense this season, having scored just nine goals compared to the 17 allowed. As it stands, Darryn Commissiong and Charlton Creggton each have three goals to their credit on the season, with three other Bearcats having scored once.
Head coach for Cincinnati is Hylton Dayes, now in his 19th season at the helm of the program. As the longest tenured head coach in Cincinnati history, he is also the school's winningest coach, racking up 137 wins during his tenure.
