MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Adding to his postseason accolades, Memphis baseball freshman Hunter Goodman was named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America team, powered by Diamond, the organization announced Wednesday.
After being named the American Athletic Conference's Newcomer Position Player of the Year and earning first-team All-AAC honors last month, Goodman became the first Memphis rookie named Freshman All-America since the outlet announced Brent Dlugach as a Freshman All-American in 2002.
Goodman paced the Tigers' offense this spring. The Arlington, Tenn., native led the squad in batting average (.326), runs (51), hits (78), doubles (16), triples (2), home runs (13) and RBI (67). He also swiped 11 bases in 12 attempts. His 67 runs batted in are tied for second all-time in the program's single-season history.
In conference rankings, Goodman finished the season ranked in the top 10 in The American in hits, runs, homers, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. His 67 RBI led the league and also rank second all-time in The American's single-season history.
Goodman amassed 66 RBI at the end of the regular season, which led his classmates nationally. By regular-season's end, Goodman also ranked second nationally in total bases with 134, while his 76 hits total ranked third among freshmen.
The organization named 83 student-athletes to its Freshmen All-America team. Goodman was listed among 18 outfielders and was joined by Tulane's Hudson Haskin in conference representation.
