Tigers to play home matches at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Soccer Complex in 2019
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer program and head coach Richard Mulrooney have announced the slate of matches for the 2019 season. This season, home matches will be played at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Soccer Complex on the UofM's Park Avenue Campus. Memphis previously played two matches at the Park Avenue Campus in 2017.
"This is a schedule that completes us. It will challenge us out of conference and on the road," Head Coach Richard Mulrooney said of the schedule. "We're playing some teams we've never seen before, and this is a schedule that allows us to build off of what we did last year."
Memphis will see new opponents in Campbell and Wright State, while reconnecting with longtime rivals such as UAB and Saint Louis.
The Tigers will open play three exhibition matches, including one against Memphis 901 FC, as the final preparation stage before the regular season kicks off against Campbell on August 30.
Also featured on the docket is the UAB Tournament, an event that the squad participated in last season. The tournament will take place in Birmingham, Ala., over the weekend of September 6-8.
American Athletic Conference play will open on the road for the Tigers in 2019, with back-to-back matches away from home against Cincinnati at the end of September and UConn to begin October. Memphis' first home match in AAC play is on October 12, when the Temple Owls come to town.
The Tigers will wrap up the regular season with a home match against USF on November 5. Memphis will host senior day to celebrate the achievements of the class prior to kickoff that evening.
"This is a schedule that can be very testing," Mulrooney said. "If we take care of business, though, it can also be very rewarding."
