Jackson to play on sponsor's exemption in pro event
WICHITA, Kan. – University of Memphis golfer Isaiah Jackson will play as an amateur in the Wichita Open, a stop on the newly named Korn Ferry Tour, formerly known as the Web.com Tour.
Â
The PGA Tour and Korn Ferry, a Los Angeles-based company, announced a 10-year sponsorship agreement Wednesday that changed the name of the developmental tour.
Â
Jackson earned a sponsor's exemption into the field by winning last December's Patriot All-America Invitational at Litchfield Park, Ariz. He will tee off at 9 a.m. Thursday.
"This week has been circled on Isaiah's calendar since December," said Tigers golf coach Blake Smart. "Very few collegiate players get this type of opportunity and I know he's taking it all in and enjoying the process."
Â
Jackson, from Golden Miss., is part of a tournament field that includes PGA Tour veterans Robert Garrigus, Daniel Summerhays, Dicky Pride, Paul Stankowski, Frank Lickliter II and John Merrick. Former Memphian Casey Wittenberg is also in the field, along with ex-Ole Miss star Braden Thornberry.
Â
Jackson posted a wire-to-wire victory at last December's Patriot All-America Invitational by shooting 67-68-70 for a 5-under total of 205.
Â
He's also entering the Wichita Open following an impressive showing at the Dogwood Invitational earlier this month in Atlanta. At the Dogwood Invitational, Jackson shot 20-under 268 – including a final-round 9-under 63 – to finish second by a single stroke.
