MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Continuing his successful rookie campaign, Memphis baseball freshman Hunter Goodman earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Goodman hit .563 throughout the week (9-for-16 in four games), recorded his first two collegiate home runs and drove in seven runs while plating four of his own. He also was successful on the base paths, going 3-for-3 on stolen bases.
The freshman began his week with a 4-for-5 effort and swiped a pair of bases against No. 21 Ole Miss at AutoZone Park on Tuesday.
The Arlington, Tenn., product turned that momentum into a 4-for-8 day in Friday's double header against Houston.
Goodman hit his first collegiate home run in Game 1 against the Cougars, a three-run shot in his first at bat, and added an RBI single in the fifth inning. In the nightcap, Goodman broke a 4-4 tie with a game-winning, two-run home run to cap a 6-RBI day.
The doubleheader sweep against the Cougars on Friday clinched Memphis' first league series win since 2017.
Monday's recognition is Goodman's first AAC Player of the Week nod of his career, while previously being listed to the league's Weekly Honor Roll on Mar. 11.
Memphis returns to action Wednesday at Arkansas State with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
