Tigers Celebrate Fall Academic Success

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis athletic department posted a 3.067 grade-point average for the 2018 fall semester, marking the 11^th consecutive term with at least a 3.0 GPA. Fifteen of the 17 teams recorded a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Student-athletes that are members of the Tiger 3.0 Club will be recognized during halftime of the men's basketball game against Cincinnati Thursday evening.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for working so hard to earn these high academic accomplishments," said Fernandez West, Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. "I must also thank our faculty, CAAS staff, and coaches for the work they do in motivating our students and holding them to such high academic standards."

The Memphis freshmen class had an impressive first semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.407. Sixty-one of those freshmen were named to the Dean's List for carrying at least a 3.5 GPA.

The baseball and men's basketball programs recorded all-time highs in GPA with team marks of 3.34 and 2.91, respectively.

This fall, 45 student-athletes were members of the 4.0 GPA Club and 159 were named to the Dean's List. Men's golf earned the title of highest male team GPA with a collective score of 3.68 while women's cross country had the highest female team GPA at 3.71.

The Memphis cheer and pom squads had a good fall semester as the teams combined for eight with a 4.0 GPA, 16 on the Dean's List, and 27 in the Tiger 3.0 Club.
