Tigers to participate in the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C.
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Why not remain in the Palmetto State?
The University of Memphis men's golf team will participate in the Colleton River Intercollegiate March 4 and 5 at the Colleton River Club's Pete Dye Course in Bluffton, S.C. The Tigers are coming off a third-place finish at last week's Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
At the Wexford, Tiger senior Bradley Bawden earned medalist honors by shooting a 4-under 212, giving the UofM medalists in back-to-back events. Isaiah Jackson, who tied for eighth at the Wexford Intercollegiate, was co-medalist at the team's final fall event, the East Bay Deli Classic in South Carolina.
Behind Bawden and Jackson, the Tigers placed third in the 19-team event. At the Colleton River Intercollegiate, the Tigers will face another strong challenge. Seven of the 14 teams are ranked in the Top 100 of Golfstat's Team Rankings. Memphis is ranked 89th.
The event, hosted by Michigan State, will be played on the club's 7,180-yard layout. Par is 72. The teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday on a course that features unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean on 11 of 18 holes.
"Colleton River is a great venue and one where we have had some success in the past," said Tigers coach Blake Smart. "It is very demanding and to put together three good rounds requires a team to be focused and tough. I'm looking forward to seeing how we compete and our continued progress."
