Mallin named Academic All-American

Senior one of six nationally as repeat winner
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, Memphis women's soccer senior Stasia Mallin earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors after being voted to the ballot's first team by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday morning.
Mallin is one of six repeat winners from a 2018 Academic All-America team as she garnered second team accolades last year.
"That's what it's all about. Not only has she gotten it done on the field but also in the classroom," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "She fully encompasses what a true student-athlete is, and she has now done it at the highest level with being named a First Team All-American athletically and academically."
The biomedical engineering major is a three-time AAC All-Academic Team member and has been named to the Tiger 3.0 Club and Dean's List each semester of her career.
In addition to her personal academic achievements, Mallin helped the women's soccer team extend its streak of earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for 13 consecutive seasons.
The Carmel, Ind., native was listed a semifinalist for the coveted MAC Hermann Trophy last week after a record-setting senior year. The First Team All-Conference honoree tallied career highs in goals (3) and assists (14) and posted two game-winning scores in 2019.
Her 29 career assists claimed the conference record for career assists, while also ranking third in program history. From her defensive position, Mallin helped the Tigers post 12 shutouts throughout the season, which rank tied for third in single-season history.
Mallin's distinction marks the 15th time in program history a Tiger has earned Academic All-America status by either CoSIDA or United Soccer Coaches. Mallin joins Vendula Strnadova (2009, 2010) and Lizzy Simonin (2010, 2011) as the two-time Academic All-America recipients in the Memphis record book. Her nod is also the first time a Tiger has been voted to a first team Academic All-America list since Simonin in 2011, while becoming the first Academic All-America first team honoree as voted by CoSIDA since Kate Murphy in 2007.
