Hit Memphis record eight three-pointers against Toledo
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a record-breaking performance and two wins on the week, women's basketball's Madison Griggs was named the American Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
In the midweek game at SIU, Griggs chipped in four points, four rebounds and three assists to go along with a pair of blocks and a pair of steals. She helped hold the Salukis scoreless for a stretch of 9:16 in the first half, leading the Tigers to a 21-point halftime lead.
Griggs' shining moment, though, came at Toledo. Playing a team-high 35 minutes, the Memphis, Tenn. native caught fire in the first half, knocking down three, three-pointers in three-consecutive possessions, erasing a seven-point deficit.
Continuing her offensive explosion, Griggs would hit two more triples in the second quarter and two more in the third quarter, sending her into the fourth having tied a school-record seven made three-pointers in a single game.
The record-breaker came with 3:33 left in the game, putting Griggs at 24 points on eight made three-pointers.
The Freshman of the Week nod is Griggs' first of her career, joining teammates Alana Davis and Jamirah Shutes as Tigers who have received the award.
Looking ahead, Memphis travels to Bimini, Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam. While in the Caribbean, the Tigers will face Kansas State and the winner of LSU/Michigan State. For more information on the Memphis women's basketball team, follow the Tigers on social media at @MemphisWBB.
