Snyders, Vazquez and Sohal bring impressive credentials starting in 2020-21
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men's golf coach Blake Smart announced the addition of three signees: South African Tyran Snyders, Spaniard Esteban Vazquez and Australian Bhavneet Sohal.
Â
Snyders, Vazquez and Sohal will help the Tigers offset the loss of four seniors after the 2019-20 season.
"The 2020 class is my best recruiting class to date," Smart said. "Obviously, we are recruiting heavily internationally, and I think that is a great fit for our program, our campus, and our city. I'm excited to see these young men become entrenched in our community and compete at the highest levels."
Â
Each comes to Memphis with impressive credentials:
Â
TYRAN SNYDERS
Â
In July, Snyders posted a three-shot victory over Timothy Magcalayo in the 41st Boys Junior North & South Championship at Pinehurst, N.C. Snyders fired a bogey-free 4-under 68 during the final round to earn the title. He opened with a 67.
Â
In his home country, he won twice on the Premier Amateur Tour in 2018, earning titles at the Steenberg Open in May and the Erinvale Open in August. He had rounds of 71 and 67 for a 36-hole total of 6-under 138 to win the Erinvale Open.
Â
"I am really excited to have a talent like Tyran joining our program," Smart said. "He has a great demeanor and is a proven winner, with a solid overall game. Tyran should have an immediate impact on our lineup from day one."
Â
ESTEBAN VAZQUEZ
Â
Tigers coach Blake Smart is also expecting great things from Vazquez, who started playing golf as a 4-year-old at his local club in Oviedo, Spain.
Â
"Esteban is a great fit for our program," Smart said. "He is smart young man and extremely talented, and we are excited to get to coach him next fall. I expect Esteban to have an impact on the lineup early and bring some firepower."
Â
Vazquez is currently ranked the No. 834 amateur in the world.
Â
BHAVI SOHAL
Â
Bhavi Sohal attended the Hills Golf Academy in Australia and earned a Stars of the Future Scholarship presented by Junior Golf Queensland.
Â
He grew up playing the sport in Brisbane, Australia, and was taught by his father. In addition to being a member of his high school golf team, he also participated in track and field and competed in the discus and shotput.
Â
"Bhavi jumped on our radar late, but we couldn't be more excited to have him join this 2020 class," Smart said. "He has all the qualities we look for in a recruit and will be a great fit in our program with huge future upside."
