MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's tennis head coach Hayden Perez announced the addition of Dolavee Tumthong and Sophie Abrams to the team's fall 2020 class.
Tumthong signed her national letter of intent to play for Memphis after a successful Juniors career in Thailand. Abrams, a Germantown, Tenn., native chose her hometown team after a standout prep career as one of the top players in the state of Tennessee.
A native of Bangkok, Tumthong posted a career-high UTR rating of 10.45. Tumthong earned a career-best WTA doubles ranking of 841 and an ITF world singles ranking of 1708.
In addition, she has advanced to the quarterfinal round or better in seven professional doubles tournaments.
Abrams signed her NLI as the No. 3 player in the state and the 33rd-ranked player in the Southeast Region, according to TennisRecruiting.com.
Abrams posted a career-high UTR of 10.57, while cracking the top 850 in doubles with a WTA ranking of 844. She has also recorded a career-best ITF world singles ranking of 1534.
Associate Head Coach Ryan Haymond on Tumthong:
"We're very excited about the signing of Dolavee. We've developed a strong relationship with her over the past year and we've come to realize more than anything that we are getting a very quality individual. Her talent on the tennis court is equally matched. Dolavee provides a very well-rounded game. With strong groundstrokes and great experience in doubles, we know she will make an immediate impact. Over the past 12 months, Dolavee has played exclusively professional tournaments and that experience will greatly help her take on the tough competition she will see in college."
Head Coach Hayden Perez on Abrams:
"Having Sophie sign with the University of Memphis is amazing and Ryan and I couldn't be happier. We believe we are getting the best player in the state of Tennessee and much of the Southern Section. She has a vast amount of experience on the ITF Pro Circuit and has already competed against many current and former college players. Sophie brings a big game to UofM; that coupled with the fact she has a tremendous work ethic will no doubt serve her and the entire women's tennis team well. We look forward to welcoming her on campus, working with her and helping her to achieve her tennis goals."
