Ashman Joining Athletics Department as Executive Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator

MEMPHIS – Lauren Ashman has been hired as the Executive Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator for the University of Memphis, it was announced Tuesday by Director of Athletics Laird Veatch.
"We are excited to welcome Lauren to the University of Memphis Athletics family," Veatch said. "Lauren is a proven and well-respected leader in our industry and we are fortunate to add someone with her experience to our executive leadership team."

Ashman has spent the last four and a half years as the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Title IX Deputy Coordinator and SWA at Bowling Green State University. There she served on the Athletics Executive Council, Executive and Senior staffs for a department with 18 sports and more than 425 student-athletes. Ashman directly supervised four programs at Bowling Green: women's basketball, volleyball, women's soccer and women's swimming and diving and supervised four administrative units: Compliance, Student-Athlete Services, Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning. She also chaired the Student-Athlete Concern Team.
Ashman created, implemented and enforced department protocol including catastrophic emergency response planning, sexual assault reporting and sexual harassment. She also developed comprehensive educational programming for student-athletes, coaches and staff specific to mental health concerns, sexual assault, illness and personal emergencies. She served as the athletic department liaison to the Office of Diversity and Belonging, the Office of Human Resources, the Office of General Council, and the Division of Student Affairs.
In the Mid-American Conference, Ashman chaired a number of committees, including the MAC Infractions Committee, the Sexual Violence Prevention Working Group, and the MAC Student-Athlete Well-Being Committee. She participated as a member of the MAC Council of Senior Administrators, MAC Sport Issue Subcommittee Championships and Awards Subcommittee and the MAC Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. On the national level, she currently serves as a chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee.
Prior to her service at Bowling Green State University, Ashman served as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services at Ohio University from 2013-2015. There she served as the primary point of reference for all matters related to compliance and supervised women's swimming and diving. She is a past graduate of the Women Leaders Institute for Administrative Advancement and has served as a professional mentor within the organization.
Ashman began her compliance career with the first of two stops at Coastal Carolina University. She served as an intern before being hired as the assistant compliance coordinator in January of 2005. She worked in that role until accepting a position as an assistant director of athletics compliance at Hofstra in August 2006. She worked at Hofstra until 2010, when she returned to Coastal Carolina as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. There she served as the Vice-Chair of the Big South Conference Compliance Administrators Committee and served as Coastal's sport supervisor for men's and women's tennis. She left Coastal Carolina for Ohio University in February of 2013.
A 2004 graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Sport Management, she was recognized as the Slippery Rock Sport Management Alumnus of the Year in April of 2017.
Ashman will start at the University of Memphis in January.
