Gleason, Sandwell lead the way for the Tigers.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – University of Memphis' Paige Sandwell and Payton Gleason paced the Tigers cross country team's effort at the NCAA South Region Championships Friday morning. The men's 10k and women's 6k races were run at Apalachee Regional Park.

The women's squad finished 19^thin the team standings. The men's team only raced two runners due to illness and injuries.

Sandwell, a senior who was competing in her fourth-straight NCAA South Region Championships, was the first Tiger to cross the finish line in 95^thplace. On the men's side, Gleason placed 33^rdand became the eighth male runner in program history with a top-50 finish at the regional race.

Paige Sandwell's 95^th-place finish was the highest of her career at the NCAA South Region Championships.
Senior Gabrielle Byndas ran in the first regional race of her career Friday.
Payton Gleason and Zachary Wyatt both ran personal-best 10k times Friday. Gleason improved his 10k time from a year ago by 2:15, and Wyatt did the same by 1:37.
Both runners also improved their finishes from last year. Payton Gleason jumped 50 spots from 83^rdto 33^rd, and Zachary Wyatt moved up 19 positions from 82^ndto 63^rd.
Since the NCAA went to a regional cross country format in 1998, Payton Gleason is the eighth male runner in program history to post a top-50 finish at the regional race and is the second to do so in as many years as Matthew Kamph did the same in 2018 (43^rd). The other six runners with top-50 performances at the NCAA South Region Championships were: Christian Schmallegger (33^rd, 1999), Kevin Foltz (41^st, 1999), Stefan Matschiner (24^th, 2000), Adam Didyk (31^st, 2003), James Maglasang (36^th, 2011; 37^th, 2012; 34^th, 2013) and Daniel Kuhman (34^th, 2011; 24^th, 2012; 37^th; 2013).
