No. 8 Tigers fall in league final

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 8 Memphis dropped a 2-0 decision to USF in the American Athletic Conference final on Sunday afternoon at Park Avenue Campus.
The Tigers and Bulls held firm until a pair of USF goals in the second half yielded the result. Despite the setback, Memphis will shift its focus in anticipation of earning an at-large bid in this week's NCAA Tournament.
"The better team won today. Sometimes in life you get beat. You take it, and what do you do with it?" head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We've got more soccer to play. If we learn from it, then that can be a great thing."
After an offensive stalemate in first half, USF broke through in the 65th minute. The Bulls continued the offensive push and added their second goal two minutes later.
Claire Abrey, Serena Dolan and Stasia Mallin were named to the All-Tournament team.
Memphis will learn its NCAA Tournament seeding during the women's soccer selection show, which is scheduled for Monday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
"The mentality has to be a positive one. You think about all the hard work we've put in. You can't lose confidence," Monaghan added. "Sometimes you have to get knocked down before you take bigger steps. If we use that to our advantage, we'll be fine."
