Tigers ranked for a second-straight week.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – After making its return to the regional rankings last week for the first time since 2014, the University of Memphis men's cross country team remained in this week's U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) South Region poll, which the organization released Tuesday.
Â
The Tigers are No. 14 in the USTFCCCA South Region this week. Memphis was No. 11 in the first regular-season poll. Memphis is one of six American Athletic Conference programs ranked among the nine regional polls.
Â
The last time Memphis was ranked in the regional poll for consecutive weeks was in 2013. The Tigers were in the poll at the No. 14 spot in the third and fourth regular-season polls of that season.
Â
Last Saturday, the Tigers won their second team title in as many races this season when it took first place in the Rhodes College Invitational. Memphis won the 8k race with 50 points, finishing ahead of Rhodes College in second place with 59 points.
Â
Senior Matthew Viveiros led the Tigers' charge as the race's individual top finisher. It was the first title and the 10th top-25 performance of his career. Viveiros led five Memphis runners with top-30 finishes in the race, including four in the top-10. In addition to Viveiros, freshmen Zachary Wyatt (5th), Payton Gleason (6th) and Tate Wyatt (9th) rounded out the Tigers' top-10 finishers.

Memphis returns to action Sept. 29 when it runs in the Great Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
