Sydney Colwill Wins Arizona Stroke Play Championship
Aug 10, 2018 | Women's Golf
Senior comes into fall off of strong summer showings.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior Memphis women's golfer Sydney Colwill fired a 210 (-6) to win the Arizona State Stroke Championship Wednesday. Colwill defends her title at the event from last summer.
The tournament win caps a strong summer for Colwill as she preps for her last collegiate season. The Tucson, Arizona native finished second at the Alberta Women's Amateur Championships and advanced to the semifinals of the Tennessee Women's Amateur Championships in June with her mom serving as her caddy.
An all-American Athletic Conference honoree after 2018, Colwill captured her first collegiate career tournament in Hawai'i in December at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. She posted seven top-20 finishes this year and had three top-five finishes to earn all-conference honors.
Her 73.52 stroke average last season is second in the Lady Tiger single season record book, trailing only Emily Goldenstein's average of 73.45, also last season. Goldenstein captured her second Missouri Women's Amateur Championship last month.
Colwill is one of three seniors returning to the Lady Tiger roster this fall. She will be joined by Michaela Fletcher, a two-time NCAA individual qualifier, and Madison Thomas. That trio will lead the team into a fall schedule that begins at the Payne Stewart Memorial, Sept. 10-11.
