MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- University of Memphis seniors Bradley Bawden and Chase Harris have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, an honor announced this week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Bawden, from Hockley, England, and Harris, from Jackson, Tenn., were among a record number of student-athletes earning All-America Scholar status. The record total included 265 Division 1 honorees, 126 in Division II and 23 at the NAIA level.
To be eligible, an individual must: be a junior or senior academically; compete in at last three full years at the collegiate level; participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds; have a stroke average of less than 76.0 (at the Division 1 level); and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
"We had a fantastic year in the classroom as a team," said Memphis coach Blake Smart. "Brad and Chase certainly did their part and have earned this honor. It is becoming quite a tradition in our program to have multiple academic All-Americans every year."
Bawden is coming off a solid junior season. He shot 66 in the second round of the Quail Valley Collegiate last fall and finished tied for third at 204. In the American Athletic Conference Championship in the spring, he shot 5-over 218 and finished tied for 15th.
Harris turned in three top 20 finishes in the spring, including a third-place showing at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate where he shot 3-under 210. In the second round of The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, he fired a career-low 67.
The Tigers open the 2018-19 season in September at the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club.
