Sydney Kingston Earns Chi Beta Phi Award For Excellence

Kingston continues to thrive academically as she concludes senior year
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis women's soccer senior defender Sydney Kingston has received the highest academic honor in her major, the Chi Beta Phi Award for Excellence in Chemistry, this past weekend.
"I'm delighted for Sydney and the awards that she has received," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "They are well deserved. Not only was she a fantastic athlete for us here at the University of Memphis, but since the day she walked on campus she has been an excellent student."
The Phi chapter of Chi Beta Phi annually awards a plaque to the graduating senior with the highest grade-point average in a specific discipline. Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Psychology all award the top students and Kingston was the chemistry representative this year.
Kingston was also recognized for maintaining a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA during her undergraduate curriculum. For her efforts in the classroom at Memphis, Kingston has been invited to serve as a Student Marshal for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Memphis Commencement ceremony in May.
"Her ability to maintain a 4.0 grade-point average throughout her four years is just a testament to the hard work she puts in day in and day out," added Monaghan. "As a head coach it makes us proud to see our student-athletes receive awards in the classroom as there will one day be life without soccer."
Earlier this year, Kingston became the first women's soccer player since 2010 to earn the Capital One Academic All-America award. Her second-team recognition was just the fifth in program history. Kingston has also been a member of the Tiger 3.0 Club and the Dean's List every semester at Memphis. The American Athletic Conference has also recognized her academic achievements with a spot on the All-Academic Team every year of her career.
