MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven seasons, the Memphis men's tennis team announced its 2019 spring schedule Monday.
The Tigers feature nine home matches at the Racquet Club of Memphis in a schedule that includes at least 10 teams that finished the 2018 dual match season nationally ranked.
Memphis, who finished last season No. 25, will open the spring with a three-match homestand against Northwestern on Jan. 13, Belmont on Jan. 18 and Jackson State on Jan. 20. The Tigers will then compete in the 2019 ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 26-27 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Memphis will begin the annual Kick-Off with a match against Old Dominion and will face either defending national champion Wake Forest or BYU on the event's second day.
The Tigers return home for another three-match swing against UAPB on Feb. 1, Michigan State on Feb. 8 and LSU on Feb. 10 before a trip to New England at the end of February to play Dartmouth and Harvard. Temple will visit Memphis for a league showdown to open the month of March.
Head Coach Paul Goebel, who is entering his 15th season at the helm of the program, will take his team to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Wichita State during spring break. Memphis will also travel to the west coast Mar. 22-24 for its annual trip to the San Diego Invite, which the Tigers won last season.
Four consecutive conference matches highlight the conclusion of the regular season. The Tigers will host SMU and Tulane on April 5 and April 7 for Senior Day. The squad then travels to Florida for matches against USF and UCF to close the regular season.
The American Athletic Conference Championships begin April 18, hosted by UCF at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla.
