Gonzalez signs with Memphis 901 FC
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Returning to the place he played his collegiate soccer, former Memphis midfielder Raul Gonzalez has joined Memphis 901 FC, the team announced Tuesday morning. Gonzalez is among a group of three players that are the first official signees for the club.
Gonzalez contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in his four seasons as a Tiger, logging time in 65 matches. After finishing his time at Memphis, he became the first player under current head coach Richard Mulrooney to sign a professional soccer contract, signing with the Richmond Kickers.
In his career at Memphis, Gonzalez was a 2013 AAC All-Rookie Team member and a two-time All-American Athletic Conference honoree.
"I'm very happy to have Raul back in Memphis, he was a great student athlete for us, both on and off the field," Mulrooney said. "Having him come back to the community he helped build, I couldn't be happier for him. Being able to see him play here is not only good for our program, but our current student athletes as well."
After playing the 2017 preseason with Minnesota United, Gonzalez was signed by the Richmond Kickers, where he has played the past two seasons.
The Ocean Springs, Miss., native scored five goals and two assists during his two seasons with the Kickers. Gonzalez appeared in 56 appearances, earning starting nods in 47 matches.
