Men’s Soccer Lands Three on Weekly Awards List

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a thrilling overtime victory over Tulsa on Saturday, three Memphis Tigers were rewarded for strong play by the conference, as junior Ben Roberts, freshman Gurman Sangha and redshirt-sophomore Chris Mikus earned AAC weekly accolades.
Roberts was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a shutout victory over Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane was held to just seven total shots and three on goal, half of the team's season average.
The Defensive Player of the Week nod is Roberts' first of the season and his second weekly honor of his career.
Sangha was awarded the conference Rookie of the Week after netting the game-winning golden goal on Saturday. Just over a minute into the overtime period, Sangha corralled the ball in the box off of a save from Tulsa's keeper. After controlling the ball, the midfielder knocked home his first collegiate score. Sangha received his first weekly conference honor for his game-winner.
Mikus received an Honor Roll spot this week after being awarded the assist on the golden goal against Tulsa. As overtime opened, Mikus immediately pressured the Tulsa defense, firing a shot just a minute into the extra period. This is the second week Mikus has received a weekly honor.
This is the first time Memphis has had three players on the weekly awards list this season.
Memphis is on the road again to start the week, playing at Lipscomb at 7 p.m., on Tuesday. Following that, the Tigers will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against UCF.
