NEW ORLEANS, La. – After a strong performance at UAB's Blazer Classic Oct. 12, the University of Memphis men's cross country team returned to this week's U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) South Region poll, which the organization released Monday.
Â
The Tigers are tied for the No. 15 spot in the USTFCCCA South Region this week. Memphis was No. 11 in the first regular-season poll, No. 14 in the second poll and No. 15 in the third poll. The Tigers were not ranked in the fourth poll of the season.
Â
Memphis is one of five American Athletic Conference programs ranked among the nine regional polls.
Â
This is the most weeks Memphis has been ranked in the regional poll since 2013. That season, the Tigers spent five weeks in the regional poll.
Â
In their last outing Oct. 12, the Tigers placed fourth in the Blazer Classic behind three teams ranked ahead of them in the regional poll: No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Tennessee Tech and No. 7 Florida A&M. Memphis finished ahead of Tennessee, which finished sixth in the Blazer Classic and is ranked No. 2 in the USTFCCCA South Region poll.
Â
Junior Matthew Kamph led the Tigers with a seventh-place finish in the Blazer Classic. Freshmen Zachary Wyatt (24th) and Payton Gleason (25th) and senior Matthew Viveiros (26th) also posted top-30 finishes in the race.
