Women’s Golf Seventh in Opening Round of Magnolia Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Junior women's golfer Abby Herrmann carded a one under 71 in the opening round of the Magnolia Invitational Sunday. With Herrmann's top three score, the Lady Tiger team is currently seventh following an opening round 299 at the Old Waverly Golf Club.
Herrmann bounced back from a +1 on the back nine after teeing off from 10 to start the morning with birdies on two, four and five to go -2 on the front side. Her first round 71 has her tied for third.
Senior Michaela Fletcher carded birdies on nine and 15 to score a 73 (+1) and is tied for 20th. Teammate Sydney Colwill alternated bogey-birdie from holes 11 through 15 and was even off the back side, her first nine holes of the day. The senior found trouble on just two holes on the front side, but a double on three and a bogey on seven pushed her to a 75 (+3), good for a tie for 33rdoverall.
Freshman Ana Dawson was the team's fourth scorer on Sunday. She was +5 off her first nine holes, but settled in to birdie three and eight to shave some strokes before a triple on nine pushed her to +8. She is currently tied for 64thheading in to day two.
Senior Madison Thomas carded a first day 81 (+9), birdying nine to grab some momentum heading in to day two on Monday.
LSU's Kathleen Gallagher leads the field after an opening round 68 (-4). Kennesaw State's Charlotte Charrayre is two strokes back in second. In all, 11 different players carded a round under par on Sunday to start the competition.
Host Mississippi State and Kennesaw State are tied for the team lead at the end of day one, carding even round 288's. Ole Miss and Oklahoma are a stroke back at 289 and LSU is fifth at 290 (+2).
Memphis will be teamed with players from Kansas State and Middle Tennessee, Monday with tee times off of ten starting at 9:20 am.
