Leeker signs with the reigning USL regular season champions
HERRIMAN, Utah – Former Memphis goalkeeper Jake Leeker has signed a professional contract to play for Real Monarchs SLC of the United Soccer League Monday. Leeker joins former Tiger Raul Gonzalez in the league as representatives of the University of Memphis.
"I am extremely excited for Jake and this opportunity to play at the next level," said Memphis head coach Richard Mulrooney. "Not every player has this opportunity and to be able to represent the University of Memphis is great for our program. We wish Jake the best of luck out in Utah."
Real Monarchs clinched the best record in the 2017 USL regular season with a 19-5-7 overall record. It was the first regular season championship in the club's third season of existence. The Monarchs play their home matches at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah and are the USL affiliate of Real Salt Lake.
The St. Louis, Mo. native competed in 47 matches for the Tigers and finished his Memphis career with a 1.43 goals against average and .749 save percentage. He earned a career-high six shutouts as a junior and finished his career with 10 in over 4200 minutes played.
Leeker graduated in the spring of 2017 with a bachelor's degree in logistics and supply chain management and is currently earning his master's in business administration through Memphis online.
