Tigers sweep ETSU to cap weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Memphis' women's tennis team ended the weekend on a good note, as the Tigers blanked in-state foe ETSU 4-0 in Knoxville.
Memphis (3-1) opened the day with wins on courts 1 and 2 to take the doubles point, before claiming three straight wins in singles to sweep the day.
"That's a great way to end the weekend. We came out focused and intense from the start," head coach Hayden Perez said. "The doubles point gave us some momentum and we were able to ride that all the way to the end. (Assistant coach) Ryan Haymond and I are proud of the girls."
Tiger duo Hanna Sohn and Katherine Cao cruised to a 6-0 win in doubles play, while Laura Bente and Anki Wind followed with a 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Josephine Cao was the first off on court 6 and notched her second win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Katherine Cao quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court 5.
The Tigers continued the momentum with a straight set victory on court 3, as Anki Wind collected her third singles win of the year with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph to set the 4-0 final.
Memphis remains on the road for its next contest, as the Tigers travel to Oxford, Miss., to visit the Ole Miss Rebels on Feb. 3.
