Men’s Tennis Drops Final Regular Season Match at USF

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Memphis men's tennis team (14-7, 2-2 American Athletic Conference) dropped its final regular season match on Monday at #26 USF (14-8).
Memphis started off well, with Kai Lemke and Andrew Watson grabbing a 6-3 win over the #35 ranked team of Sasha Gozun and Alberto Barroso. USF tied it up with a 6-4 win at three singles and the match at two went to a tiebreaker. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it was the home team that prevailed 8-6 in the breaker for the win and the 1-0 lead.
USF then grabbed straight set wins at three and five singles to get a 3-0 lead and it was a comeback win from #112 ranked Peter Bertran that sealed the victory. Bertran dropped his opening set to Chris Patzanovsky, 6-1, but came back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Memphis will remain in Florida for the American Athletic Conference Championships, which begins Thursday in Lake Nona, Florida.
